Sensei Lino Spiteri started training Wado Ryu Karate in 1972 under the guidance of the British 41st commando group. He continued practicing Wado Ryu until 1982, when Shotokan Karate was introduced in Malta by Takashi Sensei, and most Karate-ka in Malta shifted towards Shotokan path of Karate. Unfortunately, Sensei Lino Spiteri had to stop practicing soon after.
Karate was always on Sensei Lino Spiteri’s mind, and with his great determination, restarted training Karate in March of 1994. Sensei Lino restarted training Shotokan Karate as a member of the Maltese Karate organisation, back then called Malta Karate Association. Under the direction of Sensei Anthony Zammit, he achieved his 1st Dan in September 1996, and later became a qualified Karate instructor in 1999.
Despite halting Karate training in 2001 due to personal matters, Sensei Lino Spiteri’s interest in Karate kept pulling him back towards this Martial Art, and surely enough, a couple of years later he restarted practicing Karate, achieved 2nd Dan in June 2013 whilst still training under Sensei Anthony Zammit at B’Kara Karate Club.
Sensei Lino Spiteri’s last achievements were reaching his 3rd Dan in January 2017, and also helping out on various occasions as a National Karate judge during National Championships.
Sensei Lino Spiteri’s aim is to continue training Karate and absorb as much knowledge and experiences as possible.
