In July of 2018, B’Kara Karate Club organised its first ever Karate Training Camp. Sensei Susan Zammit was the main organiser of the Training Camp. The theme for the Live-In was Team Building, and Fun through Karate. This event was offered to B’Kara Karate Club members from the grade of yellow belt and above, and all younger than 13 years of age.
With more than five Karate lessons, three physical training sessions, two swimming classes and other related activities planned out by Sensei Susan Zammit, Luke Borg and Kai Leyshon proved to be valuable assistant junior coaches.
Karate lessons were mainly lead by Sensei Susan Zammit, however a few Karate lessons were assigned to Luke Borg and Kai Leyshon as assistant junior coaches. Both carried out lessons of kumite drills and techniques. Sensei Susan Zammit focused on the introduction of Bunkai whilst Sensei Anthony Zammit taught the kata Heian Ohyo Shodan to all the grades.
Swimming classes were done under the watchful eyes of 6 adults, including Mr Ryan Sciortino, who has vast experience as a life guard, swimming coach and other water related activities. Mr Ryan Sciortino was heading the team throughout our visit to the sea.
Sensei Susan Zammit also prepared the early morning physical training sessions, while Sensei Anthony Zammit, carried out a lecture on Japanese Karate terminology, as well as some important Japanese phrases and common dialogue. Karate movie clips were also shown on Friday night and a discussion group was arranged.
On the last day, the participants were tested on the knowledge they assimilated during the seminar, combined with fun water games.
The highlight of the event was the Annual B’Kara Karate Club Summer BBQ held on Saturday evening, where the B’Kara Karate Club members and their families joined in to a fun event.
Special thanks to Ryan Sciortino and Judy Anne Zammit, who were in charge of the food preparations, BBQ cooking, and finally, to Sensei Susan Zammit for co-ordinating the whole weekend events.
