Sensei Damian Vella Lenicker

3rd Dan

Sensei Damian Vella Lenicker was a member on the Committee of the Malta Karate Federation from 2011
to 2015 and participated in several training seminars both locally and abroad. Aside from his training, he
has been regularly contributing to the Federation’s National Competition events as a judge since 2010.
Damian obtained his 2nd Dan in 2013 and his 3rd Dan in 2017.

Sensei Damian Vella Lenicker started training Karate in June 1987 with the Corradino Karate Club started up by Sensei Mark Micallef. Rising through the colour belts in the following years, he had attained his green belt 6th Kyu, when the Corradino Karate Club split from the Malta Karate Association in 1990, and formed an agreement with the Italian F.I.K.T.A. under the overall technical direction of Sensei Hiroshi Shirai.

In 1992, Sensei Damian Vella Lenicker retired from training due to pressing commitments with his academic studies at the University of Malta but not before successfully taking his ‘mock’ grading for 1st Dan. Following his graduation in Architecture and Civil Engineering in 1997 and his subsequent marriage in 2004, Sensei Damian Vella Lenicker took up residence in Balzan, a few hundred metres from the gym used by the B’Kara Karate Club.

In January 2007, whilst watching a session at the B’Kara Karate dojo, Sensei Damian Vella Lenicker was noticed by Sensei Anthony Zammit who stopped the session, approached him and said the following words:

What are you doing there sitting down? Go and fetch your Gi and come to train

Sensei Damian Vella Lenicker became a member of B’Kara Karate Club, started training that same week and never looked back, obtaining his 1st Dan in 2010.
